Job Summary: The Governance Manager in the Project Management Office (PMO) plays a critical role in ensuring effective project governance, compliance, and adherence to established standards and processes. This role involves creating and implementing governance frameworks, overseeing project portfolios, and collaborating with stakeholders to drive project success. The Governance Manager will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a robust governance structure that aligns with organizational goals and enhances project delivery efficiency. Key Responsibilities: Help to manage the portfolio of projects, evaluating their alignment with strategic goals, prioritizing projects, and identifying potential risks in projects, assessing their impact, and developing risk mitigation strategies to minimize project disruptions. Conduct project reviews and audits to ensure that projects adhere to established standards and best practices, promoting a culture of continuous improvement. Ensure that the PMO provides guidance and support to all ongoing projects within the Portfolio team and other related programs. Offer training and support to project managers and teams, enhancing their project management skills and knowledge. Manages entry and exit criteria between defined phases of the project lifecycle.
Governance Framework Development: Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive project governance framework that aligns with organizational objectives and industry best practices. Define governance policies, procedures, and standards to ensure consistency and compliance across projects.
Portfolio Oversight: Manage and oversee the entire project portfolio within the PMO, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and priorities. Conduct regular portfolio reviews, assess project performance, and provide recommendations for improvement.
Risk Management: Develop and implement risk management processes within the PMO, identifying, assessing, and mitigating project risks. Work closely with project managers to ensure risk management practices are embedded in project delivery.
Compliance and Standards: Ensure projects adhere to established standards, methodologies, and regulatory requirements. Monitor and report on compliance metrics, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with project managers, business owners, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and expectations. Communicate governance policies and guidelines to stakeholders and provide guidance on compliance.
Performance Reporting: Develop and maintain regular reporting mechanisms to provide insights into project performance, risks, and compliance. Present performance reports to senior leadership and relevant governance bodies.
Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement within the PMO, driving initiatives to enhance governance effectiveness. Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in project governance.
Reporting: Manage processes to fulfil stakeholder reporting requirements regarding IT pipeline and portfolio, and compliance with IT project governance procedures. Provide insight to the IT leadership team by analyzing information to provide a strategic overview of all projects and interdependencies, reporting areas of concern, themes, trends, etc. Identify and report deviations from baseline and trigger exception reports and escalations where appropriate.
