Respiratory Therapist

Under the direct supervision of a Neonatologist, Pulmonologist, Respiratory Therapy Supervisor duties would include management of ventilated patients in ICU and NICU. Responsible to all CODE Blue or Pink situation and Traumas or stat calls in the Emergency Department. Assist in the Neonatal, Pediatric and Adult Intensive Care Units with ventilator management. Manage or perform Non-Invasive ventilation throughout the hospital. Teaching breathing techniques and exercises to the patients in the OPD.

1. Confers with physicians on a regular basis regarding changes in treatment strategies.
2. Set up and operate devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems and aerosol generators, following specified parameters of treatment.
3. Responsible for the use of all respiratory equipment used to treat and diagnose patients with respiratory related problems.
4. Monitoring equipment and patient responses to therapy.
5. Performs simple bedside Spirometers.
6. Assisting physicians in bronchoscopy, bedside tracheostomy and intubation.
7. Provide emergency care, including artificial respiration, external cardiac massage and assistance with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
8. May be responsible for ventilator management or assistance in the adult, pediatric or Neonatal intensive care units under direct supervision of a Neonatologist, Pulmonologist.
9. Administration and monitoring of therapeutic gases such as inhaled nitric oxide, heliox and nitrogen and oxygen therapy.
10. Analyzing the level of oxygen and other gases in a patient’s blood.
11. Determine requirements for treatment such as type, method and duration of therapy, precautions to be taken, and medication and dosages, compatible with physician’s orders.
12. Work as part of a team of physicians, nurses and other health care professionals to manage patient care.
13. Monitor patient’s physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial blood gases and chemistry changes, and consult with physician if adverse reactions occur.
14. Inspect, clean, test and maintain respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently, ordering repairs when necessary.
15. Educate patients and their families about their conditions and teach appropriate disease management techniques such as breathing exercises and the use of medications and respiratory equipment.
16. Relay blood analysis results to a physician.
17. Comply with all OSH and infection control policies, standards and procedures and cooperate with hospital management to comply those requirements.
18. Work accordance with the documented OSH procedures and instructions, specific responsibilities.
19. Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
20. Notifying OSH Hazards, incidents, Near misses and issues and assistance with the preparation of risk assessments, incident reports.
21. Comply with Waste management procedures and policies.
22. Attend applicable OSH/Infection control training programs, mock drills and awareness programs.
23. Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.

• Valid DOH/DHA License or DOH Pass result as Respiratory Therapist to work in United Arab Emirates.
• Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy from a an accredited University or
• Associate/Masters degree in Respiratory Therapy (minimum two (2) years course duration) or
• Bachelor’s in nursing followed by a Postgraduate qualification in Respiratory Therapy
• Minimum of 2 or 3 years of experience after registration as Respiratory Therapist.
• Home Country Registration as Registration Therapist.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Knowledge in Arabic will be an advantage but not essential.
• Excellent computer skills.
• Must have valid Basic Life Support (BLS) & Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
