Rubber Lining Technician

Key Responsibilities

• Perform rubber lining of the internal surfaces of tanks, vessels, pipes, valves, and other industrial equipment using approved rubber sheets and lining materials.
• Prepare equipment surfaces for rubber lining through activities such as surface cleaning, scraping, grinding, sandblasting, and application of primers or bonding agents.
• Accurately measure, cut, position, and apply rubber sheets to equipment surfaces in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
• Ensure proper bonding, jointing, overlapping, and seam formation to achieve a high-quality and durable rubber lining.
• Operate and monitor equipment used for rubber lining and vulcanization processes.
• Use compressed air, steam, autoclaves, or other approved methods as required for bonding and vulcanization of rubber linings.
• Inspect completed rubber lining for defects such as air pockets, wrinkles, blisters, cracks, poor adhesion, and faulty seams.
• Conduct spark/holiday testing and other inspection methods to identify pinholes, holes, or defects in the rubber lining.
• Repair defective areas and rework rubber lining where required to meet quality standards.
• Carry out rubber lining installation and repair work at customer or project sites when required.
• Follow approved work procedures, quality requirements, safety regulations, and PPE requirements at all times.
• Maintain proper care and handling of rubber sheets, adhesives, tools, and lining equipment to minimize material wastage.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
• Coordinate with supervisors, quality personnel, and other technicians to ensure work is completed within the required timelines.
• Report any technical issues, material defects, equipment problems, or quality concerns to the supervisor.
• Perform any other duties related to rubber lining operations as assigned by the supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Qualifications

• High School Certificate, Technical/Vocational Certificate, or equivalent.
• Technical certification or training in Rubber Lining, Rubber Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

Experience

• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in rubber lining operations, preferably in an industrial/manufacturing, tank, vessel, piping, valve, or similar environment.
• Experience in both workshop and site-based rubber lining activities is preferred.

Technical Skills

• Good technical knowledge of rubber lining processes and application techniques.
• Hands-on experience in surface preparation, rubber sheet application, bonding, jointing, and vulcanization.
• Knowledge of spark/holiday testing and identification of rubber lining defects.
• Ability to operate rubber lining and vulcanization equipment safely and effectively.
• Ability to read and understand basic technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
• Good knowledge of industrial safety practices and PPE requirements.
• Ability to use basic hand tools and measuring instruments relevant to rubber lining work.
