Organization Unit Purpose

 

The Credit function within Emirates Islamic is responsible for the independent assessment, monitoring, and control of credit risk across the bank’s portfolio. The unit ensures that all credit exposures are aligned with the bank’s risk appetite, internal policies, and regulatory requirements set by the UAE Central Bank. It supports sustainable business growth by enabling informed credit decision-making, maintaining asset quality, and minimizing potential losses. Through robust credit evaluation, ongoing portfolio monitoring, and policy development, the unit enhances risk governance, ensures timely processing of credit proposals, and contributes to maintaining a strong and healthy credit portfolio.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Manage and monitor the assigned credit portfolio, ensuring asset quality and compliance with risk parameters.

  • Review and approve credit proposals within delegated authority and recommend higher-value cases to senior committees.

  • Conduct detailed credit analysis, including financial statement reviews and risk assessments.

  • Ensure all credit facilities comply with internal policies and UAE Central Bank regulations

  • Monitor portfolio performance, identify early warning signals, and recommend corrective actions.

  • Engage with internal stakeholders, including Relationship Managers and Risk teams, to support business objectives.

  • Support audits, regulatory reviews, and contribute to policy and process improvements.

 

Required Qualifications & Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Banking, Accounting, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in banking, with a strong focus on Corporate Credit.

  • Strong knowledge of credit risk analysis, financial statement analysis, and lending frameworks.

  • Familiarity with UAE Central Bank regulations and banking compliance standards.

  • Professional certifications such as CFA, CA, or CPA is an advantage.

  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and stakeholder management skills

 



Responsibilities
1. Portfolio credit quality and risk appetite alignment
  • Evaluate complex credit applications to ensure alignment with the bank's risk appetite and Shariah principles.
  • Scrutinise portfolio trends and concentrations, identifying emerging risks and recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Calibrate credit grading and early warning systems to reflect evolving market and regulatory conditions.
  • Engage with relationship managers to clarify risk positions and uphold prudent underwriting standards.
Performance Measures:
  • Degree of portfolio risk profile adherence to approved risk appetite
  • Effectiveness of early identification and escalation of emerging credit risks
  • Stakeholder confidence in credit decisioning integrity

2. Regulatory and Shariah compliance in credit processes
  • Interpret and apply local and international regulatory requirements, ensuring all credit processes remain compliant.
  • Embed Shariah governance standards within credit assessment and documentation workflows.
  • Coordinate with Compliance and Shariah teams to address audit findings and regulatory queries.
  • Champion continuous process improvements to anticipate regulatory changes and industry best practices.
Performance Measures:
  • Absence of regulatory or Shariah non-compliance findings in credit processes
  • Timeliness and completeness of audit response and remediation
  • Sustained process improvement in line with regulatory developments

3. Credit policy governance and procedural enhancement
  • Review and update credit policies to reflect current risk appetite, market conditions, and regulatory changes.
  • Lead departmental initiatives to streamline credit approval and monitoring procedures.
  • Benchmark internal policies against industry standards and recommend enhancements.
  • Facilitate training and communication to ensure policy adoption and procedural clarity.
Performance Measures:
  • Relevance and clarity of credit policies and procedures
  • Uptake and compliance with revised policies across the unit
  • Demonstrable improvement in process efficiency and risk control

4. Credit analytics and portfolio reporting for informed decision-making
  • Synthesise portfolio analytics to inform departmental and management decision-making.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards tracking key credit metrics, including NPLs, sector exposures, and risk migration.
  • Present actionable insights to departmental stakeholders, supporting risk-adjusted growth strategies.
  • Collaborate with Data and IT teams to enhance data quality and reporting automation.
Performance Measures:
  • Actionability and relevance of portfolio insights provided to management
  • Accuracy and timeliness of credit analytics and reporting outputs
  • Stakeholder utilisation of reports in business and risk decisions





Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field (required)
  • Professional certification in Credit Risk, Islamic Finance (e.g., CIPA, CCRM, CFA, or equivalent) preferred
  • Ongoing professional development in regulatory and credit risk topics
