Job Description - Staff Nurse ME

POSITION: STAFF NURSE - ALBARSHA CLINIC

DUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstratesability to prioritize tasks ensuring effective functioning of thearea.
  • Followsthe chain of command in reporting incidents orconcerns.
  • Prioritizesworkload and completes correspondence in a timelymanner.
  • Ensuressafe working environment through strict compliance with HospitalPolicy and Procedure regarding safety, infection andsecurity.
  • Demonstratesskills in assessment of patient, family’s physical andpsychologicalneeds.
  • Demonstratesskill in coordination and planning of care and prioritize carebased on individual needs.
  • Demonstratesknowledge of and ability to render care and services based on age,appropriateness and developmental needs ofpatients.
  • Performsnursing interventions / procedures in accordance with establishedstandards of care and policy andprocedures.
  • Identifiesand responds to urgent/emergency situations appropriately anddirects team members in a calm, proficientmanner.
  • ProvideNursing Care to patient prior and post procedure.
  • Bookpatient for appointment, procedure, or treatment according totreatment plan.
  • Followup on patient’s diagnostic tests and coordinate withphysician for informing patients about their results, treatment, orif a follow up is needed with physician.
  • Maintainsaccurate and thorough documentation as per Hospital Policies andProcedures.
  • Maintainscompetency in use of department specific equipment necessary forthe resuscitation of the patient.
  • Maintainknowledge and awareness regarding department / service specificpolicies, procedures andguidelines.
  • Demonstratesdelivery of safe and appropriate nursing care according tostandards ofcare.
  • Maintainsa safe environment for patients, co-workers, visitors and others byfollowing hospital policy in reporting of equipment failures,safety and securityissues.
  • Demonstrateseffective communication and good customer service skills wheninteracting with the interdisciplinary team, patients, families andothers.
  • Supportsthe effective functioning of unit routine, i.e., preparation ofcharts (screening); use of electronic record system, update ofpatient records and preparation in view of dayschedule.
  • Self-updatingregarding internal memos and communication towards changes inclinic.
  • Keepconsultation rooms stocked and clean prior and after patient hasbeenseen.
  • Admitsand discharges patients according to establishedstandards.
  • Organizesand prepares patient with an outpatient appointment for MRI/CTunderSedation/Analgesia.
  • Administermedication, chemotherapy, infusion, blood products (whateverapplicable) as per Hospital Policies and Procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-4year General Nursing Diploma /Degree

PROFESSIONALEXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 3-4years nursing care, with at least two years’ experiencein speciality (
  • Previous experience in aPrivate Healthcare institute is an asset.
  • Current license to practicenursing.
  • BCLScertification.
  • Post graduate diploma, whereapplicable.

RESPONSIBILITIES

General:

  • Providesage-specific patient-centered care utilizing the nursingprocess.
  • Performs patient assessment usingappropriate, problem-focused, and age-specific assessmenttechniques.
  • Performs continual critical careassessment of patient and family's physical andpsychological needs.
  • Involves the patient,significant others, and health care providers in the plan of carewhen appropriate.
  • Collaborates with amulti-disciplinary team to provide patientcare.
  • Coordinates and plans criticalcare/clinical pathway, and prioritizes care, based on individualneeds. Revise the care plan asnecessary.
  • Initiates appropriate transferplan.
  • Recognizes subtle cues to anticipatepotential problems.
  • Documents all relevant datain the medical record according to hospital/departmentalstandards.
  • Ensures availability and maintenanceof supplies and equipment needed for the unit and patientcare.
  • Performs clerical duties whenneeded.
  • Assumes responsibility for meetingJoint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) requiredmandatory education (e.g. fire, safety, infection control andothers).
  • Participates in staff meetings andunit committees/projects.
  • Participates indeveloping and achieving unit goals.
  • Maintainsa safe environment for patients andstaff.
  • Performs safe handling andadministrating of Narcotic/Controlled and Semi-Controlled Drugs anddocumentation as directed by policies andprocedures.
  • Ensures completion of unitcompetencies i.e. pain management, and utilization of Emergencydepartment devices.
  • Maintains clinical andprofessional competency based on the latest research andestablished standards of practice.
  • Completesyearly, the critical care nursing competencies(basic).
  • Participates in unit-based ContinuousQuality Improvement (CQI) activities (data collection, CQI teams,incident reporting, customer complaint reporting, medication errorreporting etc.).
  • Participates in ongoingeducational activities.
  • Maintains mandatoryeducational requirements.
  • Performs additionalduties when required.
