Senior Structural Engineer – Shop Drawings & Coordination

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer with strong expertise in structural shop drawings, technical coordination, design interpretation, and construction documentation.

The role will be responsible for preparing and reviewing detailed structural drawings and calculations, coordinating structural requirements with architectural, MEP, and other disciplines, managing structural RFIs, and ensuring that construction activities are carried out in accordance with approved design documents and specifications.

The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of AutoCAD and other technical design software, excellent understanding of structural construction, and proven experience working on building or infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed structural drawings, shop drawings, layouts, and construction details based on approved design drawings, specifications, engineering calculations, and project requirements.
  
• Review architectural and structural design information and translate design concepts into accurate construction drawings.
  
• Conduct site visits to verify existing conditions, dimensions, measurements, and construction requirements.
  
• Prepare and update structural shop drawings based on design changes, RFIs, site conditions, and consultant/client comments.
  
• Review structural drawings and identify discrepancies, design conflicts, constructability issues, and coordination requirements.
  
• Prepare structural calculations and supporting technical documentation under the direction of the Technical Manager or Senior Engineer.
  
• Coordinate structural drawings and requirements with Architectural, MEP, and other engineering disciplines.
  
• Review and coordinate subcontractors' structural shop drawings and technical submissions.
  
• Raise and respond to Structural RFIs and coordinate with relevant technical teams for timely resolution.
  
• Participate in technical and coordination meetings with internal teams, clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
  
• Represent the structural engineering team during site coordination activities and assist in ensuring construction complies with approved design specifications.
  
• Identify required design corrections and coordinate their implementation under the supervision of the responsible design/structural engineer.
  
• Check dimensions, quantities, materials, and construction details against approved drawings and specifications.
  
• Interpret building codes, regulations, specifications, and technical documentation relevant to structural works.
  
• Coordinate with junior and senior structural engineers, technical managers, and project teams to resolve technical issues.
  
• Assist in preparing technical reports, cost estimates, tender documentation, and other project-related technical documents when required.
  
• Ensure drawings and technical documentation are properly prepared, updated, controlled, and maintained.
  
• Support the project team in resolving design and construction-related structural issues.
  
• Supervise and coordinate the work of draftsmen, technicians, and other technical personnel where required.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  
• 10+ years of relevant experience in structural engineering, construction, shop drawings, and technical coordination.
  
• Strong experience in preparing and reviewing structural shop drawings and construction drawings.
  
• Proven experience with structural calculations and technical documentation.
  
• Strong knowledge of structural construction methods, materials, specifications, and design requirements.
  
• Experience coordinating structural works with Architectural and MEP disciplines.
  
• Experience reviewing and coordinating subcontractor shop drawings.
  
• Strong understanding of RFIs, design changes, technical submissions, and consultant/client comments.
  
• Excellent knowledge of AutoCAD and other relevant engineering/design software.
  
• Knowledge of Adobe and other technical documentation/presentation software is an advantage.
  
• Good understanding of applicable building codes, standards, specifications, and construction requirements.
  
• Excellent analytical, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
  
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  
• Arabic language proficiency is an advantage.
  
• Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, technical managers, clients, consultants, subcontractors, and project teams.
  

Preferred Candidate Profile

Candidates with strong hands-on experience in structural shop drawings, structural calculations, RFIs, multidisciplinary coordination, and subcontractor drawing review will be preferred.

Experience working on large-scale building or infrastructure projects and coordinating directly with consultants and clients will be an added advantage.
