Your Mission

As UGC and Verification Journalist you will be responsible for discovering, evaluating and verifying information, images, videos and other forms of content generated by our collaborators, citizen journalists, witnesses, or participants of newsworthy events.  You will recognise the content that is critical for providing a well-rounded view of events, capturing moments and perspectives that traditional reporting might miss.

As the UGC and Verification Journalist you will have significant fact-checking responsibility being accountable for maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and ethics in the newsroom, providing insights on the most challenging footage.

Job Requirements and Skills

• Able to monitor, identify, and assist with UGC stories specific to daily editorial duties
• Proficient at discovering UGC from social media platforms
• Skilled at communicating and executing clearance agreements with originators
• Adapt at maintaining and developing fast and efficient UGC workflow
• Capable of validating and verify video, satellite imagery, and other sources using OSINT tools, for both breaking news investigations on all platforms
• Skilled at keeping up-to-date with all existing and emerging social media platforms
• Be equipped at educating the newsroom about new platforms and developments
• Able to pitch, research and develop original stories for investigation, using OSINT newsgathering techniques
• Work with all facets of the organisation to ensure the most accurate and compelling UGC coverage
• Demonstrate a willingness to work a flexible schedule

Your Profile

To be successful at this position, we think you should to have:

• Experience in journalism with a background in news reporting, fact-checking, or digital journalism
• Strong proficiency in using digital tools and platforms for content discovery, verification, and analysis
• An understanding of fact-checking techniques (Such as Geolocation)
• Critical thinking, ethical awareness and the ability to notice inconsistencies, anomalies, and discrepancies in content is essential

Working Schedule

• Shifts including nights, weekends and on public holidays
• Flexibility is a must, with an 'on-call' mentality for those breaking news stories or emergency situations
