JOB PURPOSE: 

 

The purpose of the job is to analyse International Banking business and financial and identify areas of opportunities for enhanced financial outcome and continuous profitability improvement. Key responsibilities include:

 

  • Perform profitability analysis for International Banking by creating and maintaining analysis model to discover profit drivers and analyze which customers segments & sectors, products, and locations are profitable.
  • Deliver analysis outcome focus on “why” and “how” profitability and costs are impacted.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis to address specific business questions and predict possible future financial scenarios. 
  • Deliver analytics to shape country and business strategy through reliable, factual analysis outcomes rather than intuition.
  • Input to country strategy and performance review with key indicators on profitability and costs for target customer segments, products, and locations.
  • Support International CFO in implementing a strong business financial review governance framework across the international locations encompassing performance reviews, country strategy and CAGR projections, low return client’s analysis, and optimization initiatives. 
  • Act as the Primary Point of Contact (representing International CFO) to support various optimization and transformation initiatives undertaken by Finance to improve profitability and returns.

  • Effectively coordinate, communicate and build excellent relationships with key stakeholders across Group Finance, country Finance, product and segment Finance etc.

 

Job Context 

Month end Review Insight & Analysis

  • Review and analyze International financial results by key trends and drivers, covering products / segments / countries / corridors / key clients / key GLs.
  • Regularly assess and investigate the integrity of financial information reported by countries from a multiple of perspectives – accounting, tax and regulatory, HO vs country requirements.
  • Connect with Product / Segment Finance teams to ensure product / segmental financials related to International locations are explained.
  • Connect with country Finance teams to ensure geographical financials are reviewed and explained. 
  • Review and raise questions to country Finance teams on abnormal trending and large movement.
  • Provide process and technical guidance to country Finance teams to review key trends and drivers. 
  • Ensure country Finance teams provide explanation on key trends and drivers with supporting materials.
  • Connect country Finance teams with relevant HO / Group functions on financial results clarification and reporting data issues resolution. 
  • Highlight any issues with country financial results and coordinate with product and country finance teams to remediate.

Analytical Reporting

  • Create analytical reporting for International to present key analysis on profitability and returns, covering products / segments / countries / corridors / key clients / key GLs.
  • Establish customer financial analysis model and provide key analysis as a regular monthly deliverable in parallel with the monthly International geographical MI reporting.
  • Connect with the International MI & Performance Management team and country Finance teams to productionize a monthly customer financial analytical MI pack to enable country level business review by international management and / or Group senior stakeholders. 

 

Strategy and Business Review

  • Participate actively in country business review / International business review by providing strategic inputs on key analysis outcome, including key trends and drivers by products / segments / countries / corridors / key clients / key GLs.
  • Be the Primary Point of Contact (representing International CFO) to support various optimization & transformation initiatives relevant to International Banking, with the objective to improve profitability and returns.
  • Prepare or critique business cases or initiatives aimed at enhancing country / International performance.

Capital, Financial, Regulatory and Taxation Reporting Support

  • Connect with country Finance teams, Group FC, Group Tax and Group Capital Management to support where HO input is required on Group’s capital and financial analysis, and tax impact analysis. 
  • Participate actively in country ALCOs and other such forums as required.

Transformation and Continuous Improvement

  • Seek to identify and recommend changes that improves international profitability and returns, including suggestion on cost saves, RWA optimization, ECL model review to enhance clarity of COR and Impairments, tax analysis. 

Governance & Control Oversight

Whenever required,

  • Provide strategic review and analytical input to development of International MI & Performance and International Financial Governance teams and support the MI reporting framework and financial governance framework implementation within countries.
  • Connect country Finance teams with International MI & Performance and International Financial Governance teams and relevant Group Finance teams on issues pertaining to MI / FPA, budgets, financial control, taxation, and provide input from the regular financial assessment and investigation.
  • Be ready and able to act as a Country CFO on an interim basis (if circumstances require) to provide additional “hands on” finance expertise to countries when required by strategic initiatives and/or executive management decisions.
  • Be ready and able to provide “hands on” FTE capacity to regional / country finance projects with heavy workloads, staff absence, cross training, and contingency planning.
  • When requested or necessary, provide thought leadership to country finance teams in subject matters that cover the full spectrum of Group Finance activity (FPA, Business Partnering, Treasury, Financial Reporting, Tax and Control).

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: 

Minimum Qualification

  • Degree / Professional qualifications such as ACA/ CPA / MBA
  • Relevant Accounting or Tax qualification preferred.

Minimum Experience

  • Min 10-12 years of experience covering Finance, Business Partnering, FPA, Audit, Tax functions in a Banking environment
  • Good accounting principles knowledge.
  • General corporate tax and Transfer pricing experience preferred.
  • Some knowledge of IT systems and use of tax accounting system 
  • Banking / Financial services industry experience required.
  • Work experience across number of countries preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Quick learner and self-motivated
  • Able to record issues and propose solutions with good documents management skills.

Ability to handle pressure and tight timeframes.
