Power Market Analyst Internal - Short Term

Role Description 

We are looking for a driven commercial trading analyst to join our short-term power trading team. You will be responsible for contributing to all our short-term power trading activities from day-ahead through front month, across GB and Continental European markets. The role is ideal for someone who has already demonstrated strong commercial acumen and analytical rigor and is looking to grow their career in the dynamic short term power markets. 

Our key focus is expanding our Week Ahead business, where we see significant untapped value. We need someone who lives and breathes the power markets, leaves no stone unturned in their analysis, and can work closely with Ravi to identify and monetise trading opportunities. The short-term power markets offer enormous potential for those with the right fundamental insights and commercial instincts. 

Role responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

• Develop and maintain deep fundamental views on GB and Continental power markets from day-ahead to front month 


• Work closely with Traders, Meteorologists and other Analysts to build conviction around market positioning 


• Contribute actionable trade ideas, with particular focus on growing our Week Ahead trading business 


• Monitor and analyse key fundamental drivers: weather patterns, demand forecasts, plant outages, renewable generation, and grid constraints 


• Act as a commercial sparring partner to traders, challenging assumptions and identifying value opportunities 


• Continuously assess market positioning and identify arbitrage opportunities across the short-term curve 


• Share insights and collaborate with the forward power team where synergies exist 


• Support Ravi in developing and executing the team's commercial strategy

Requirements 

• Strong and proven commercial acumen, demonstrated by tangible contributions to P&L in current role 


• Deep passion for power markets - someone who genuinely lives and breathes these markets 


• Excellent fundamental analysis skills with keen understanding of weather, demand patterns, generation mix dynamics 


• Strong performance in current role with demonstrated analytical rigor 


• Ability to identify high-impact opportunities and deliver commercial results 


• Desire to grow into a role managing short term risk 


• Collaborative approach to working with traders and cross-functional teams 

Potential Growth Paths 

The primary trajectory for this role is to eventually manage your own short-term trading book, taking ownership of risk positions across the day-ahead to front month timeframe.
