Job Description - 1:1 Specialist PE Instructor

1:1 Specialist PE Instructor - Blackpool (September 2025 Start)

Are you a passionate and adaptable PE professional dedicated to unlocking the potential in every young person? Do you thrive on delivering tailored, engaging physical activity sessions that inspire confidence and promote well-being?

We are seeking an exceptional and empathetic 1:1 Specialist PE Instructor to join a supportive educational environment in Blackpool for the academic year commencing September 2025. This unique role focuses on providing individualised physical education and activity support to students who may benefit from a bespoke approach, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), specific learning styles, or those requiring re-engagement with physical activity.

About the Role:

You will work closely with individual students, developing and delivering tailored PE programmes that meet their specific physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs. This could involve working within a school setting, or potentially at alternative provisions or community sports facilities, depending on the student's requirements. Your primary goal will be to foster a positive relationship with each student, building their confidence, developing their physical literacy, and promoting a lifelong love for active living.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Individualised Planning & Delivery: Design, plan, and deliver engaging and differentiated 1:1 PE sessions, adapting activities to suit the student's unique abilities, interests, and learning styles.

  • Assessment & Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess student progress, identify areas for development, and provide constructive feedback. Maintain accurate records of sessions and student achievements.

  • Behaviour Management: Implement highly effective and consistent behaviour management strategies, fostering a positive and safe learning environment, with a particular focus on building rapport and motivating disengaged learners.

  • Safeguarding: Uphold the highest standards of child protection and safeguarding at all times, adhering strictly to school policies and national guidelines. Recognise and respond appropriately to any safeguarding concerns, reporting to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) immediately.

  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with class teachers, SENDCOs, parents/carers, and other professionals (e.g., therapists, educational psychologists) to ensure a holistic approach to student development.

  • Resource Management: Ensure the safe and appropriate use and maintenance of all PE equipment and facilities.

  • Promoting Well-being: Encourage healthy lifestyles, sportsmanship, teamwork, and resilience through all physical activities.

  • Professional Development: Commit to ongoing professional development, staying abreast of best practices in PE, SEND, and behaviour management.

The Ideal Candidate Will Possess:

  • Qualifications:

    • A relevant Sports Coaching qualification (Level 2 or above) OR a degree in Physical Education/Sports Science.

    • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is highly desirable, particularly for roles within a school's core curriculum. Experience in teaching PE within a UK school setting is essential.

    • Current First Aid qualification (desirable).

  • Experience:

    • Proven experience working 1:1 or with small groups of young people, particularly those with diverse needs (e.g., SEND, SEMH).

    • Demonstrable experience in planning and delivering engaging and safe physical activities across a range of sports and disciplines.

    • Experience in applying effective behaviour management strategies in a PE context.

  • Skills & Attributes:

    • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong, professional relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.

    • Patience, empathy, and resilience when working with challenging behaviours or complex needs.

    • Creativity and adaptability in designing and modifying activities.

    • Strong organisational and planning skills.

    • A proactive, positive, and enthusiastic approach to physical education.

    • A genuine commitment to promoting inclusion and student well-being.

  • Safeguarding:

    • A clear understanding of UK safeguarding policies and procedures.

    • An Enhanced DBS check (on the Update Service) or willingness to undergo one.

    • Completion of recent safeguarding training.

Why Join Us?

  • Opportunity to make a significant, positive impact on individual student lives.

  • Work within a supportive and collaborative educational community.

  • Access to professional development opportunities.

  • Be part of shaping the future of young people in Blackpool.

Application Process:

To apply for this rewarding position, please submit your CV and a covering letter outlining your suitability for the role, your experience in 1:1 instruction, and your approach to behaviour management and safeguarding.

Email:

Applications are invited as soon as possible, with interviews likely to commence throughout the summer term for a September 2025 start.

This School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
