What's it like to work at the British Council as a Teacher?
Role purpose
The purpose of this role is to promote high-quality teaching and support effective learning of English across all teaching activities. The role also contributes to the design, delivery, and review of adult English programmes and services at the centre.
In addition, the role supports the implementation of the Burma Teaching Centre’s strategy and objectives. This includes helping to meet learner numbers and impact targets, while strengthening the British Council’s reputation in Burma as a trusted and expert provider of English Language Teaching.
Job Overview
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Teacher or Coordinator to develop skills in academic management and customer service, while supporting product and business delivery. As part of the Teaching Centre management team, you will work closely with the Adult Senior Teacher and the Operations, Sales, and Customer Management teams to ensure high-quality teaching, learning, and services.
You will mainly teach adult learners from elementary to upper-intermediate levels, across General English, IELTS preparation, and Professional Business Skills courses. Teaching takes place both face-to-face and online, seven days a week, at the Yangon Teaching Centre. You may occasionally support Young Learner courses if needed. The centre has a strong focus on professional development, and you will be expected to attend and deliver training, as well as support teachers through observations and line management.
Main Accountabilities
This role supports the British Council’s global English strategy by ensuring high-quality teaching and services for adult learners. It includes developing adult courses, delivering teaching to ELT standards, meeting learner needs, completing administrative tasks accurately, and maintaining positive relationships with students and colleagues. The role also involves ongoing professional development, sharing best practices, and supporting promotional and educational activities when required.
In addition, the role works closely with the Academic Management, Sales, Customer Management, Operations, and Library teams to deliver a consistent and high-quality learning experience, both face-to-face and online. This includes maintaining teaching quality standards, developing training and teaching materials, and supporting wider services and events that promote and strengthen the centre’s teaching offer.
