Accommodation Assessment and Lettings Officer

• Hourly Rate: £22.78 PAYE / £29.15 Ltd/Umbrella

We are seeking an Accommodation Assessment and Lettings Officer for a Southeast London council. This role involves arranging emergency and temporary accommodation placements, making referrals into supported accommodation, and ensuring all placements are carried out efficiently. The ideal candidate will be responsible for making property offers in line with housing legislation and coordinating properties in the private rented sector to prevent and relieve homelessness.

• Arrange emergency and temporary accommodation placements and make appropriate referrals into supported accommodation.
• Ensure all placements and referrals are carried out in a timely manner, making the best use of all available housing stock.
• Make offers of properties in line with housing legislation and make robust decisions to discharge duty that will withstand legal scrutiny.
• Coordinate available properties in the private rented sector and, in conjunction with Housing Caseworkers, identify highest priority households for Direct Lets.
• Ensure high-quality offers, suitability, and discharge of duty decisions are made promptly relating to offers of properties (temporary accommodation & private rented properties).
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and guidelines so that accommodation is allocated based on need and all offers of accommodation are suitable.
• Proactively contribute to the council’s action plan to reduce the number of households in temporary accommodation by monitoring and maximising move-on opportunities.
• Maintain accurate records of those in all types of emergency, temporary, and supported housing, maintaining statistical information for local and central government statistical returns.

• Experience in housing, social care, or a related field.
• Knowledge of housing legislation and the ability to make decisions that withstand legal scrutiny.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency in maintaining accurate records and handling confidential information.
