Sterling Williams are working alongside an international bank based in the City of London who are looking to hire into their Accounting team on a 12 month Fixed Term Contract basis.

Accounts Officer - AP/Payments & Reporting
12-month Fixed Term Contract (potential to extend/go permanent)
Salary circa £32,500 - £37,500 per annum plus benefits
City based (Hybrid working)

The purpose is to provide administrative and operational support within the Accounts department, with a primary focus on payment processing, expense control and support with Head Office reporting. The role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, timeliness and compliance of financial transactions and records, maintaining supporting documentation, and contributing to budgeting and forecasting activities.

The successful candidate will likely have:

  • Minimum of 2 years work experience in a similar environment, such as accounting/finance department within a large, international business, banking/financial services or in accounting practice.
  • Basic accounting knowledge (e.g., journal entries, expense recognition, ledger vs sub-ledger reconciliations).
  • Familiarity with budget or forecasting support processes.
  • Knowledge of compliance principles (e.g. anti-money laundering, know your Transaction checks) with the ability to identify and escalate suspicious or irregular transactions.
  • Experience using financial systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g. VLOOKUP, pivot tables, reconciliations to name a few).
  • Open and quick to learn any systems as this role handles many internally developed apps and systems.
  • Ability to recommend solution for any possible errors in data or inefficient process.
  • High level of accuracy in data entry and payment verification.
  • Ability to manage time well, stay organised, and knows how to prioritise.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken, to ensure clear communication, accurate reporting and effective collaboration across teams and with Head Office.

Qualifications:

  • A degree is preferred but not required. Candidates may be currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related professional qualification.
  • Bookkeeping qualification preferred (AAT or similar) but not essential
