Accounts Payable Team Leader - Local Authority Contract

Location: West Midlands
Rate: £30 per hour (Inside IR35)
Duration: 3 months (with potential for extension)
Hours: Full-time (Monday-Friday)

About the Role:

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a local authority for an experienced Accounts Payable Team Leader to join their finance team on a 3-month contract. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a solid understanding of local government or public sector finance to step into a key operational role.

As Accounts Payable Team Leader, you will lead the day-to-day running of the AP function, ensuring accurate and timely processing of invoices and payments, compliance with financial regulations, and the delivery of excellent service to both internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee and manage the Accounts Payable team to ensure effective processing of invoices and payment runs
• Ensure compliance with financial procedures, internal controls, and audit requirements
• Resolve complex queries and support supplier relationship management
• Monitor team performance, provide training/support where needed, and drive continuous improvements
• Reconcile supplier statements and manage aged creditor reports
• Collaborate with internal departments to ensure smooth workflows and accurate financial reporting

What We’re Looking For:

• Previous experience in a similar AP supervisory or team leader role, ideally within local government or public sector
• Strong knowledge of accounts payable processes, systems, and financial controls
• Excellent organisational and communication skills
• Ability to lead, motivate, and support a team in a fast-paced environment
• Proficiency in finance systems (e.g. Agresso)
