Accounts Payable Team Leader - Temporary

Location: Stevenage

Job Type: Full-time, temporary, Remote working with 2 days per month in the office.

Salary: £18.72ph - £20.64ph

We’re looking for an experienced and proactive Accounts Payable Team Leader to lead the AP team and oversee the full purchase-to-pay process. In this key role, you’ll ensure all payments are accurate and authorised, while developing policies, improving reporting, and driving process improvements across the function.

This role is offered as a remote working opportunity, with 2 days per month in the office after the initial induction week.

As Accounts Payable Team Leader, you’ll be at the heart of our financial operations. Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading the Accounts Payable Team (3) and overseeing the full purchase-to-pay cycle.
• Managing the Purchase Ledger (PL) and Purchase Ordering (RSS) modules, including upgrades and integrations.
• Driving a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
• Collaborating with IT and software suppliers to ensure systems meet evolving business needs.
• Developing robust reporting tools to support strategic decision-making.
• Ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments.
• Producing financial data for budgeting, audits, and statutory reporting.
• Recruiting, training, and mentoring a team of two Accounts Payable Officers.

We’re seeking a proactive and detail-oriented professional with:

• 5 GCSEs (A–C) including English and Maths (or equivalent).
• AAT qualification (desirable).
• Proven experience in Accounts Payable, with a strong understanding of purchase-to-pay processes.
• Excellent IT skills, especially in Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to lead and motivate a team.
• Experience in system reconciliation and working under pressure to meet deadlines.
• Previous experience in a Local Authority finance department (desirable).
