Job Description - Area Facilities Officer

Job Title: Area Facilities Officer (Ref: LBS-007)

Location: Southwark Council, 160 Tooley Street, London SE1
Pay Rate: £20.00 per hour (Inside IR35)
Working Hours: Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (1 day WFH)
Start Date: 28th July 2025
End Date: 20th October 2025
Weekly Hours: 36
Contract Type: Agency Worker
Interviews: Week commencing 14th July (Monday 14th, Tuesday 15th, Thursday 17th)

About the Role:

Southwark Council is seeking a proactive and experienced Area Facilities Officer to join their Corporate Facilities Management (CFM) team on a temporary basis. You will be responsible for ensuring that a portfolio of operational council buildings are compliant, safe, and offer optimum environments for staff and visitors.

This is a hands-on, mobile role that involves regular site inspections across the borough, client engagement, and close collaboration with contractors and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver facilities services across a designated portfolio, ensuring statutory and corporate compliance.

  • Respond to and resolve urgent property management issues escalated by colleagues.

  • Ensure site-based emergency procedures are in place and aligned with council standards.

  • Act as an intelligent client, specifying and commissioning repairs, maintenance, and improvement works.

  • Implement Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and support high-quality customer service on site.

  • Monitor and control delegated budgets (up to £250k), providing spend analysis where required.

  • Liaise with CFM technical teams and professional consultants on complex building issues.

  • Maintain strong Health & Safety standards across all managed sites.

Requirements:
  • Experience in facilities or property management, ideally within a public sector or multi-site environment.

  • Understanding of building compliance, health & safety regulations, and emergency procedures.

  • Strong communication and organisational skills.

  • Comfortable working independently and familiar with lone working procedures.

  • Proficient in using electronic systems to manage tasks and records.

  • Ability to travel between council sites across the borough.
