ASC / Education Solicitor

Rate: £50-£60 per hour - Negotiable DOE

Contract Length: 3-6-month initial contract

We are seeking a committed and experienced Solicitor to join a dynamic legal services team at a Southwest based local authority. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to impactful legal work that supports council services, improves outcomes for communities, and enhances the delivery of high-quality public services.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure the effective delivery of legal advice on children's social care, including Court of Protection cases, education law and adult social care law.
• Manage a mixed case load of Court of Protection cases; welfare application, section 21A appeals and applications under the Re X process.
• Provide advice on SEND, school admission, school attendance and other education related queries, such as refusal of home to school transport and school admission appeals.
• Represent the council in tribunals, inquiries, and court proceedings.

Key Requirements

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or FCILEX with a current practising certificate.
• Sound understanding of adult and children's social care law, Court of Protection law and education law.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and effective IT skills.
• Confidence dealing with sensitive and complex issues, with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Advocate on behalf of the council when required, in-person and remotely.
