Job Description - ASD Teaching Assistant

ASD Teaching Assistant

Location: Southwark, South East London
Start Date: September 2025 (or sooner if available)
Hours: 9:00am - 3:30pm, Term-time only
Pay: £95 - £115 per day (dependent on experience and qualifications)

Do you have a passion for supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)?

A highly regarded SEN school in Southwark is seeking a dedicated and compassionate ASD Teaching Assistant to join their team. The school caters to pupils with a range of complex learning needs, with a strong focus on autism support across all key stages.

This role is ideal for someone with previous experience in specialist settings, a calm and empathetic approach, and a genuine desire to help pupils thrive both academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support students with autism in a structured and nurturing environment.

  • Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored lessons and activities.

  • Help implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies.

  • Encourage communication, social interaction, and independent learning.

  • Provide support with personal care where necessary.

  • Contribute to creating a safe, stimulating, and inclusive classroom.

What We're Looking For:
  • Experience supporting children with ASD (in schools, homes, or specialist provisions).

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach.

  • Understanding of autism, sensory needs, and behaviour strategies.

  • Team player who is flexible, proactive, and committed to safeguarding.

  • Educated to at least Level 1 in English and Maths.
