Assistant Accountant

We are currently working in partnership with a local authority based in Merseyside, who are recruiting for an Assistant Accountant on a temporary, initial 3-month contract. The position is due to start w/c 23rd June.

Our client is offering an hourly rate of £23.42 (via an umbrella company) and hybrid working with 1-2 days at home.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

• Providing assistance in financial support and guidance to non-finance teams, contributing to budget monitoring and maintenance
• Assisting in the preparation of financial reports, forecasts, and budgets for assigned teams, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations and policies
• Supporting with the analysis of financial data, identifying trends and variances, and assisting in providing insights to support decision-making processes
• Collaborating with stakeholders to ensure effective financial controls and processes are in place
• Contributing to the preparation of year-end accounts, adhering to accounting standards and statutory requirements

Experience required:

• A recognised technical accountancy qualification/part qualification (e.g. AAT) or equivalent experience

Skills, knowledge and expertise required:

• Good understanding of financial management principles and practices
• Intermediate Excel skills and familiarity with other MS Office applications
• Knowledge of financial regulations and accounting standards relevant to local government

Working hours:

• 37 hours per week
• Monday - Friday, 9am-5pm
