Join the Capital Programme Division at Manchester City Council as an Assistant Engineer, focusing on Highways. This role is crucial in delivering a range of highway projects that comply with statutory and regulatory legislation, supporting the Council’s corporate aims and objectives.

• Assist in the delivery of an efficient and effective highways consultancy service, embracing change and innovation to ensure excellent service compliant with legislative requirements.
• Assess the feasibility of new projects, applying a consistent and coherent approach, ensuring all tasks are completed to a high standard.
• Administer contracts effectively, monitoring the performance of all contract activities to ensure high standards of service delivery.
• Foster a culture of collaborative working across departments to enhance service delivery to the people of Manchester.
• Develop successful relationships with stakeholders to understand design briefs clearly and ensure all proposals meet agreed objectives.
• Manage work packages within project constraints of time, quality, and cost to achieve Business Plan objectives.
• Monitor and control income and expenditure relating to services, projects, and budgets to ensure financial targets are met.
• Represent the City Council in consultations, addressing contentious and difficult issues while being sensitive to community diversity.

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline or HNC/HND supplemented with further learning and relevant post-qualification experience.
• Full Membership of a relevant Institution or equivalent theoretical knowledge in a relevant discipline.
• Demonstrable experience in project management, financial management, and ICT skills.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to negotiate and manage contracts effectively.
• Ability to solve problems, make decisions, and manage time effectively.
