Job Title: Assistant HR Officer Location: Crownhill Police Station, Plymouth (Hybrid Working) Contract Type: Temporary – 6 Months Working Hours: 37 hours per week (Mon–Thurs 09:00–17:00, Fri 09:00–16:00) Umbrella Rate: £17.80 per hour Start Date: ASAP About the Role:We are currently seeking a highly organised and proactive Assistant HR Officer to join a dynamic HR Operations Delivery team in Plymouth. This opportunity has arisen due to the resignation of the current post holder and is initially offered as a 6-month temporary assignment, with hybrid working arrangements following the completion of training. In this pivotal support role, you’ll work closely with HR colleagues and managers, providing operational HR support and first-line advice on a range of employee matters. You’ll also manage the HR inbox, collate and present data, and support the effective delivery of people management procedures. Key Responsibilities:
Be the first point of contact for HR queries from managers and staff
Manage and triage the team inbox
Draft correspondence and collate HR data into clear, presentable formats
Support HR colleagues in handling attendance, performance, grievance, and probation cases
Liaise effectively with internal teams, managers, trade unions, and the police federation
Use HR systems and tools confidently to track and manage cases
Work Pattern:Hybrid working available after training with 3 office days per week following a structured 2-week rota. Office presence is required each Thursday (09:00–17:00). About You:Essential:
Experience in an HR environment supporting people management
Strong attention to detail and IT skills (e.g., drafting letters, data collation)
Ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple deadlines
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to use initiative and work independently as well as part of a team
Resilient and confident in handling challenging situations
Desirable:
Previous experience using HR systems and reporting tools
Knowledge of attendance, performance, grievance, and probation policies
