Job Description - Behaviour Mentor

Behaviour Mentor | Primary School Support | Bexley | £95-£115 per day | Full-Time, Monday to Friday | September 2025!

An impactful opportunity awaits a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to join a supportive primary school environment in Bexley. Long Term Futures is partnering with a school deeply committed to fostering positive conduct and emotional well-being among its pupils, seeking a proactive individual to guide and support children facing behavioural challenges.

The Opportunity: Cultivating Positive Futures

This is a pivotal full-time role within a "Good"-rated primary school in Bexley. As a Behaviour Mentor, you will be instrumental in nurturing a calm and respectful learning atmosphere, providing targeted interventions for pupils who require additional guidance with their behaviour and emotional regulation. This long-term contract offers stability and has a strong pathway to a permanent position, allowing you to become a consistent and influential figure in children's lives.

You will contribute directly to creating an inclusive setting where every child feels understood, supported, and empowered to make positive choices.

Your Role: Guiding and Empowering Young People

In this crucial capacity as a Behaviour Mentor, your key responsibilities will encompass:

  • Implementing individualised behaviour support plans, working closely with pupils to understand and address the root causes of their challenges.
  • Providing one-on-one or small group support for children requiring intensive intervention, helping them develop coping strategies and self-regulation skills.
  • Utilising effective de-escalation techniques to manage challenging situations calmly and constructively, ensuring a safe environment for all.
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils, acting as a consistent role model and advocate.
  • Collaborating with class teachers, the SENCo, and pastoral staff to ensure a cohesive approach to behaviour management.
  • Monitoring and meticulously recording pupil progress, contributing valuable insights to reviews and future planning.

What We Require: Essential Attributes & Expertise

To excel in this vital role, you will possess:

  • Proven experience working with children or young people, specifically supporting those with challenging behaviours or SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs.
  • A strong understanding of various factors that can impact behaviour and effective strategies for positive intervention.
  • Familiarity with de-escalation techniques; relevant training (e.g., Team Teach, MAPA) is highly advantageous.
  • Exceptional patience, resilience, and empathy when navigating complex behavioural situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, essential for building rapport with pupils, staff, and parents.
  • A current enhanced DBS check, or a readiness to apply for one.

Working With Us: Advantages & Assistance

Collaborating with Long Term Futures and this Bexley school provides:

  • Opportunities for specialised professional development in behaviour management and pastoral support.
  • A supportive and dedicated team environment committed to pupil well-being.
  • The benefit of consistent, long-term work with potential for permanency.
  • Direct guidance and robust support from our experienced consultants.

Your Application: Steps to Success

If you are a compassionate professional ready to make a significant difference in pupil behaviour and lives:

  • Submit your up-to-date CV for prompt review.
  • Connect directly with Jack, our South East London specialist.
  • Complete all necessary background and compliance procedures.
  • Arrange your interview with the school's leadership team.
