Job Description - Behaviour Mentor

Behaviour Mentor | Primary School Support | Lewisham | £95-£115 per day | Full-Time, Monday to Friday | Immediate Start or September 2025!

A fantastic opportunity has opened for a proactive Behaviour Mentor within a supportive primary school in Lewisham. Long Term Futures is collaborating with an educational institution deeply invested in fostering positive conduct and emotional resilience among its pupils. We're seeking an individual ready to guide and empower children navigating complex behavioural and emotional challenges.

The Opportunity: Cultivating Positive School Journeys

This is a key full-time position within a "Good"-rated primary school in Lewisham. As a Behaviour Mentor, your presence will be central to maintaining a harmonious and constructive learning atmosphere. You'll provide targeted interventions for young learners who require tailored guidance in developing self-regulation and prosocial skills. This is a consistent, long-term engagement, offering a direct path to a permanent role and allowing you to become a stable and impactful presence in children's lives.

You will be instrumental in ensuring every child feels safe, understood, and capable of positive participation within the school community.

Your Role: Fostering Self-Regulation and Engagement

In this vital role as a Behaviour Mentor, your responsibilities will involve:

  • Implementing individualised behaviour management strategies, working intimately with pupils to uncover and address the underlying causes of their difficulties.
  • Offering dedicated one-on-one or small group coaching to children requiring intensive support, aiding them in mastering coping mechanisms and effective communication.
  • Employing calm and effective de-escalation techniques to navigate challenging incidents, ensuring a secure and focused environment for all.
  • Building profound, trusting connections with pupils, serving as a consistent and empathetic role model.
  • Liaising seamlessly with class teachers, the SENCo, and wider pastoral teams to ensure a unified approach to student well-being.
  • Systematically tracking and analysing behaviour patterns, providing invaluable feedback for reviews and strategic planning.

What We Require: Essential Qualities & Expertise

To thrive in this impactful position, you will need:

  • Demonstrable experience working with children or young people, specifically in contexts involving challenging behaviours or Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • A nuanced understanding of the various influences on behaviour and a repertoire of effective positive intervention methods.
  • Competence in de-escalation practices; relevant training (e.g., Team Teach, MAPA) is a distinct advantage.
  • Exceptional levels of patience, adaptability, and empathy when managing complex behavioural scenarios.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication abilities, crucial for establishing rapport with pupils, staff, and families.
  • A current enhanced DBS check, or a readiness to apply for one.

Working With Us: Advantages & Professional Development

Partnering with Long Term Futures and this Lewisham school provides:

  • Access to specialised professional development, enhancing your skills in behaviour management and pastoral care.
  • A supportive and collaborative team culture, deeply committed to the success and well-being of every pupil.
  • The assurance of consistent, long-term employment with a clear potential for a permanent role.
  • Direct guidance and robust support from our experienced recruitment specialists.

Your Application: Begin Your Contribution

If you are a compassionate professional ready to make a significant and lasting difference in the lives of pupils:

  • Submit your up-to-date CV for prompt consideration.
  • Connect directly with Jack, our dedicated South East London specialist.
  • Complete all necessary background and compliance procedures.
