Benefits Assessor

Location: Barnsley
Pay Rate: £12.59 per hour
Hours: Full-time, 8:30am - 5:00pm
Contract Duration: Until 13/10/2025

We are looking for an experienced Benefits Assessor to join a busy and fast-paced local authority environment. You will be responsible for assessing all claims for Council Tax Support and contributing to the wider Benefits and Taxation function.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess all new and existing claims for Council Tax Support

• Input and maintain data within Council Tax systems

• Provide excellent customer service, including handling enquiries and general administration

• Ensure accuracy in processing claims and communicating outcomes

• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to data protection policies

• Work to deadlines and performance targets

Essential Requirements:

• Recent experience in a Benefits and Taxation role

• Sound understanding of Housing Benefit, Council Tax Support legislation, and related processes

• Proficient in the use of Academy and Enterprise systems

• Confident with Microsoft Excel and other Office applications

• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

• Ability to manage workload effectively and work to strict deadlines
