Job Description - BSL SEN Teaching Assistant

Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant

Contract type: Full Time - Long term

Location: Didsbury - South Manchester

Start Date: Immediate and September

We are seeking a Level 1 BSL SEN Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated team in a specialist SEN complex school in Manchester. This role involves providing essential support to students with a range of complex needs, including PMLD, focusing on communication. This is an opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of young people, contributing to an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Support students across various age groups and abilities within the school, including those with ASD,SMLD,MLD and PMLD.
  • Facilitate communication using BSL to assist students with hearing impairments.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and therapists to implement IEPs.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support, adapting to the specific learning styles of students.
  • Assist with personal care and mobility as required, promoting student independence.
  • Contribute to a positive and engaging classroom atmosphere.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.

Requirements:

  • Hold a BSL Level 1 qualification or proficient as a minimum.
  • At least 6 months UK experience working in an SEN or SEN provision mainstream school
  • Understanding of various communication strategies for students with complex needs.
  • Ability to demonstrate patience, empathy, and resilience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive and adaptable approach to supporting students.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Possession of a valid enhanced DBS check, or willingness to obtain one.
  • Right to work in the UK.
