Job Description - BSL Teaching Assistant

Teaching Assistant - BSL Support| Telford

Aspire People, a trusted education recruitment agency, are working in partnership with a specialist school to recruit a passionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Complex and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and British Sign Language (BSL) needs.

- Full-Time - Monday to Friday - Term Time Only
- Role due to start in September, but the school is open to candidates who are available to start sooner

About the Role:
This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils with a range of complex needs, many of whom use British Sign Language (BSL) as their primary method of communication. As a Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with severe learning difficulties and BSL needs
- Use BSL to communicate effectively with pupils and support their learning and social development
- Help implement individualised education plans (IEPs) and adapt activities to suit each child's needs
- Assist with personal care, sensory support, and classroom transitions where required
- Work closely with teachers, speech & language therapists, and other support staff to ensure pupils receive holistic and consistent care
- Create a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment that promotes engagement and progress

Who We're Looking For:
- We're seeking a calm, patient, and resilient individual with a genuine passion for supporting pupils with complex needs. The ideal candidate will:
- Have experience supporting children who use BSL to communicate (a minimum of Level 2 BSL is highly desirable)
- Be confident working with pupils with SLD, PMLD, ASD, and associated needs
- Demonstrate adaptability, with the ability to respond calmly to challenging behaviours or changes in routine
- Be nurturing and empathetic, understanding the importance of building trust and routine for vulnerable pupils
- Work well as part of a collaborative team, while also showing initiative and independence
- Be open to training and development opportunities to support continued growth in a SEN setting

This is an incredibly fulfilling role where no two days are the same-but the impact you'll make is consistent and life-changing.

If you're ready to make a difference and have the experience and passion to support BSL learners in a specialist setting, we'd love to hear from you.

Aspire People Limited provides services as an Education Agency and an Education Employment Business. Placements are subject, to appropriate Child Protection screening, including checks with former employers and the Disclosure and Barring Checks.
