Building Surveyor

Job Title: Building Surveyor
Pay Rate: £420 per day
Contract Length: Until December 2025

Tripod is currently seeking a Building Surveyor to join a local authority team and lead on the delivery of responsive and planned maintenance, compliance surveys, and capital works across a large and varied property estate. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced professional to take on responsibility for high-value maintenance programmes and act as a subject matter expert for statutory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver reactive and planned maintenance programmes across a diverse property estate.

• Conduct compliance and asset management surveys (including asbestos, fire, accessibility, and condition).

• Act as a competent person for a specific area of statutory compliance (e.g. fire, asbestos).

• Manage capital and revenue maintenance projects up to £500k p.a., ensuring value for money and regulatory compliance.

• Oversee contractor performance and ensure adherence to health & safety and CDM regulations.

• Lead emergency building responses following incidents like fire, flood, or storm damage.

• Support the development of technical policies, e-learning materials, and training within your area of expertise.

• Liaise with external agencies, internal stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance and service quality.

Essential Requirements:

• Degree in Building Surveying or a related discipline.

• Eligible for RICS/CIOB membership (must achieve within 18 months).

• Strong knowledge of construction, planning, building regulations, and health & safety legislation.

• NEBOSH certificate or similar qualification in H&S.

• Experience delivering building surveys, reactive maintenance, and planned works across a multi-site estate.

• Proven ability to manage compliance and deliver capital works projects.

Desirable:

• Experience with CDM 2015 regulations.

• Background in a commercial maintenance or income-generating environment.

Location: Plymouth
Work Style: Office-based with regular site visits; often reactive and at short notice.
IR35 Status: Inside IR35
