Job Description - Business Support Officer

Business Support Officer
  • Full-time (Temporary for 3 months)
  • Location: Bury Council
  • Pay Rate: £12.21 paye

Bury Council are looking for a Business Support Officer to join our team managing home to school/college transport provision for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). This role is crucial in supporting the team to ensure safe and efficient transport services and is available for the next 3 months.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Assist with telephone calls, admin tasks, mileage reimbursements, processing of time sheets, and assessments for travel passes.
  • Coordinate SEN home to school transport, 16/19 home to college transport, and mainstream home to school travel.
  • Act as a first point of contact for the school and college transport team/school crossing patrol service, offering assistance, advice, guidance, and information related to service provision.
  • Handle enquiries face-to-face, by telephone, or email, providing consistent advice for all services provided by the team.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing mail, and provide organisational support with photocopying, scanning, printing, and distribution of information.
  • Produce standard letters and notifications related to school and college transport and school crossing patrol services, using mail merge in accordance with the Council's communication guidance.
  • Support the team in running reports, creating spreadsheets and/or databases, and preparing statistical data.
  • Maintain and monitor inventory of equipment for transport and school crossing patrol service, ensuring adherence to stock control processes.
  • Process bus pass and travel assistance applications, assess eligibility, liaise with applicants, and coordinate travel arrangements in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Assist in collating information related to incidents involving transport/school crossing patrol services and liaise with various stakeholders including contractors, parents, and school staff.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Excellent customer care skills and experience working with the public both face-to-face and over the telephone.
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office packages and experience with bespoke ICT transport management tools.
  • Ability to handle potentially irate customers effectively, with support from the line manager and team members.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Experience in administrative roles, preferably within a similar service environment.
  • You will require a Valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
