Job Description - Business Support Officers

Business Support Officers
  • Pay Rate: £12.21 per hour PAYE
  • Location: Oldham Council, Meridian Centre
  • Job Type: Full-time, Temporary (2 months)

Oldham Council are looking for two Business Support Officers for a full-time, two-month temporary position. The role involves supporting the archiving of historical records, including verifying details against a database and managing the documentation for the destruction of records. This position is based at the Central Records office at the Meridian Centre in Oldham and offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to effective business support and service delivery.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Support the archiving of historical records, including checking details against information held on a database.
  • Complete necessary documentation for the destruction of records in compliance with the Council’s Data Retention Policy.
  • Type and format presentations using computerised presentation packages.
  • Produce various documents such as letters, memos, reports, charts, maps, and tables using word-processing packages and branded templates.
  • Design spreadsheets and input basic formulae.
  • Maintain effective and efficient office and information systems, ensuring compliance with external requirements.
  • Perform data entry, ensuring documents are complete and accurate, and manipulate and retrieve data from both paper and computerised systems.
  • Run and analyse reports from systems, identifying and correcting errors as appropriate.
  • Assist in maintaining a library of professional reference material.
  • Transcribe tapes/Dictaphone notes or audio typing, including handling multiple voices where necessary.
  • Undertake filing, both paper and computerised, using relevant filing and storage systems.
  • Coordinate the archiving of documents and information according to the Council’s policies.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience in business support or administrative roles.
  • Proficiency in using office software, including word processors, spreadsheets, and database systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with office and information systems management.
