Manchester City Council are looking for a Cemetery Operative to join our Bereavement Services team. This role is essential in maintaining the high standards of our cemeteries, providing a respectful environment for bereaved families and visitors. The position involves a variety of grounds maintenance and horticultural duties across multiple sites.

• Perform grounds maintenance, horticulture, and memorial safety testing to ensure the cemetery is maintained to a high standard.
• Operate a range of mechanical equipment and tools safely and efficiently.
• Conduct daily checks on vehicles and mechanical equipment, ensuring cleanliness and reporting any defects.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, Funeral Directors, and bereaved families to deliver a customer-focused service.
• Respond to service requests promptly, handling all interactions with sensitivity and professionalism.
• Apply technical expertise and knowledge to ensure safety and compliance with Health and Safety regulations.
• Support the training and development of new staff and participate in regular training to stay updated with relevant policies and procedures.

• Physical fitness and ability to handle outdoor work in various weather conditions.
• Experience in grounds maintenance, horticulture, or a similar field.
• Ability to operate drive-on and manual equipment and machinery safely.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact sensitively with a diverse range of individuals.
• Clean driving license.
• Team player with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work proactively.
