Job Description - Challenging Behaviour Teaching Assistant

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with a range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health), and associated challenging behaviours.

  • De-escalate incidents effectively and apply school-approved behaviour management strategies, including use of Team Teach or similar interventions (training can be provided).

  • Assist with the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs), behaviour plans, and risk assessments.

  • Foster a safe, nurturing and structured environment that encourages positive learning experiences.

  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and parents/carers to provide a consistent and collaborative approach to pupil support.

  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, progress, and support provided.

  • Support with personal care and mobility needs where necessary (training provided if applicable).

Requirements:

Essential:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN and/or behavioural challenges.

  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond constructively to challenging behaviour.

  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine commitment to inclusive education.
