Job Title: Social Worker - Children in Care & Care Leavers Team

Newcastle City Council is seeking a skilled and dedicated Social Worker to join the Children in Care and Care Leavers Team. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a positive and lasting difference in the lives of looked-after children and young people transitioning out of care. The successful candidate will carry out statutory duties under the Children Act 1989 and other relevant legislation, working within a multi-disciplinary team to support children and young people in care and those preparing for independence.
Key Responsibilities:Manage a caseload of children and young people who are looked after or care leavers, ensuring their safety, well-being, and development.
Develop and implement care and pathway plans that reflect the young person's views and are reviewed regularly in line with statutory requirements.
Promote the stability and permanence of placements, working in partnership with foster carers, residential staff, health and education professionals, and independent reviewing officers.
Ensure effective transition planning for care leavers, supporting them with accommodation, education, employment, financial independence, and emotional well-being.
Undertake direct work with children and young people to build trusting relationships and support their personal development.
Prepare comprehensive assessments, reports, and court statements as required, attending court when necessary.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records in line with the Council's policies and procedures.
Participate in supervision, team meetings, and training to maintain continuous professional development.
Degree in Social Work or equivalent qualification.
Current registration with Social Work England.
Minimum of 2 years' post-qualification experience working with looked-after children and/or care leavers.
Strong understanding of relevant legislation, including the Children Act 1989, Leaving Care Act 2000, and Children and Social Work Act 2017.
Excellent assessment, analytical, and report-writing skills.
Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a supportive team culture.
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
