Job Description - Claims Administrator

Claims Administrator

  • Job Type: Temporary, Full-time (Hybrid)
  • Location: Leeds, LS1 1JF
  • Duration: Initial 3 months
  • Pay: £12.69 per hour

We are seeking a Claims Administrator to provide temporary administrative support in the handling of insurance claims within Leed Council's Financial Services department. This role is crucial for maintaining efficient claims processing and ensuring that our council has adequate insurance arrangements.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Enter and record complete and accurate data related to claims on the council’s claims database system.
  • Provide administrative support in the entry and processing of insurance claims, ensuring timeliness and adherence to practice directions and corporate guidelines.
  • Assist in the registration of claims with external agencies, including the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Compensation Recovery Unit (CRU).
  • Liaise with the Claims Team, Claims Litigation section, and other interested parties on claims-related issues as directed.
  • Respond to queries from officers, external organisations, and the public on claims matters, providing necessary support and data.
  • Handle telephone enquiries and respond to voicemails efficiently.
  • Process accurate and timely payments within the council’s Financial Management System (FMS) and assist in other financial tasks as directed.
  • Regularly report to the Deputy Insurance Manager with progress reports and details of significant issues.
  • Perform all functions and duties in accordance with Council policies, Financial Regulations, Information Governance requirements, and management directives.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of dealing professionally with a variety of individuals from different disciplines and organisations.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and objectives in line with corporate and legal priorities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other computerised systems.
  • Knowledge of administrative tasks within a financial ledger system.
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment, preferably within an insurance and claims setting.
  • Team-oriented with a commitment to achieving agreed objectives and targets.
