Class 3 Building Control Inspector – Local Authority Contract (West Midlands)

We are currently supporting a Midlands-based Local Authority in their search for an experienced Class 3 Building Control Inspector to assess and ensure compliance with building regulations for complex developments, including those under the Building Safety Regulator’s scope.

Role Details:

• Position: Class 3 Building Control Inspector
• Start Date: ASAP
• Rate: Negotiable
• Working Arrangement: Mostly remote, some onsite when required
• Duration: 6 Months (Likely extension)

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure compliance with Building Act 1984 and Building Regulations for high-risk and complex developments through plan appraisals, inspections, and enforcement actions.
• Work alongside the Building Safety Regulator within a multi-disciplinary team to regulate higher-risk buildings.
• Investigate and address dangerous structures, unauthorised works, demolitions, and complaints, taking enforcement action when necessary.
• Provide technical advice and guidance to stakeholders, ensuring compliance through inspections and assessments.
• Supervise and support team members, delegating tasks and mentoring junior staff.
• Maintain strong relationships with external agencies, contractors, and internal departments.
• Promote a customer-focused service, exploring new techniques and improving service efficiency.
• Maintain professional registration and CPD compliance while ensuring adherence to ISO 9001 and Council regulations.

Requirements:

• Class 2A – 3H Registered Building Inspector status with the Building Safety Regulator.
• Degree in Building Control, Building Surveying, Construction, Structural Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Membership with a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS, CABE, CIOB) with evidence of CPD compliance.
• Extensive experience in Building Control, managing complex caseloads, including new applications, regularisations, and reversions.
