Role: Clinical Psychologist / Psychological Practitioner / Therapist
Location: HMP Styal
Contract Type: Temporary

Are you ready for a challenging and rewarding opportunity to make a real difference?

NHSP are looking for a Registered Clinical Psychologist, Registered Psychological Practitioner, or Therapist to join the dedicated Integrated Mental Health Team (IMHT) at HMP Styal on a temporary basis. This is a unique opportunity to support some of the most vulnerable individuals in a complex and dynamic environment.

About the Role:
Working within the prison setting, you will provide expert psychological input through assessment, formulation, and intervention for women experiencing mental health challenges, emotional distress, complex personality presentations, and trauma-related difficulties.

You will play a key role in enhancing mental health outcomes and reducing the risk of reoffending, while contributing to a psychologically informed culture within the prison.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Conducting thorough psychological assessments and developing nuanced formulations.

  • Delivering evidence-based interventions tailored to individual needs.

  • Supporting effective risk management through liaison with multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Promoting psychologically informed approaches across the establishment.

  • Maintaining high standards of clinical record-keeping and reporting.

  • Exercising professional autonomy while maintaining awareness of personal limitations.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Registration with a relevant professional body (HCPC/BABCP/BACP).

  • Strong understanding of complex and developmental trauma, and its impact on mental health and offending behaviour.

  • Experience or awareness of the CPA and stepped care approach to mental health.

  • Resilience, adaptability, and excellent communication skills suited to a secure environment.

Why Join Us?
Working in a prison environment is both demanding and deeply impactful. You’ll be part of a supportive, skilled team making a difference where it's needed most. If you are a compassionate, reflective practitioner ready for a unique clinical challenge, we would love to hear from you.
