Job Description - Commercial Property Lawyer

Service Care Legal are recruiting on behalf of a London-based lcoal authority who are seeking a Commercial Property Lawyer to join them on a contract basis. Please find below further details with regards to this opprotunity.

Job Title:
Commercial Property Lawyer
Location: South West London (Local Authority)
Contract: 3 months (with potential for extension)
Hours: 35 hours per week
Rate: £35 - £45 per hour umbrella (£40.10ph PAY inc. holiday pay, £35.78ph PAYE exc. holiday pay)
Experience Level: NQ to 5 years PQE

Please note that this role would be office attendance 2 days per week.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal advice and support on a broad range of commercial property matters.
  • Draft, negotiate, and review leases, licences, assignments, surrenders, and other property-related documentation.
  • Advise on landlord and tenant matters, acquisitions and disposals, and property management issues.
  • Support regeneration and development projects, including advice on property transactions and partnerships.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory obligations, council policies, and best practice.
  • Work closely with internal departments, external partners, and stakeholders.
  • Handle a manageable caseload with supervision (where required for junior candidates).
Requirements:
  • Qualified solicitor, barrister, or chartered legal executive (NQ to 5 years PQE).
  • Strong understanding of commercial property law, ideally with experience in the public sector or for local authorities (preferred but not essential).
  • Ability to manage a caseload with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Strong commitment to public service values and client care.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a supportive legal team.
Desirable:
  • Previous experience working in or for a local authority.
  • Knowledge of public sector governance and procurement processes.
