Locum Commercial Property Lawyer – London Local Authority – Hybrid – Full Time

Venn Group is working with a well-regarded local authority legal shared service in North West London in their search for a Commercial Property Lawyer on a locum basis for an initial three-month contract.

Details:

Job Title: Commercial Property Lawyer

Hourly Rate: Up to £55 per hour umbrella (flexible for the right candidate)

Length of Contract: 3 months initially, with a high likelihood of extension

Working Pattern: Full-time – 36 hours per week

Location: Local Authority in London

Office Attendance: 1 day per week required – more remote working considered

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Handle a full caseload of Commercial Property matters, including complex and politically sensitive work
• Provide proactive, solution-focused legal advice to officers, members, and project teams
• Draft and negotiate legal documentation including leases, licenses, disposals, acquisitions, and development agreements
• Attend council meetings and advise in public forums as needed
• Supervise and support junior legal staff where appropriate
• Contribute to the development of the property team and wider legal department, including delivering training
• Ensure compliance with Lexcel and SRA standards, and uphold high client care standards

Preferred Experience:

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of CILEX with significant post-qualification experience in Commercial Property law
• Strong working knowledge of public sector property matters and local government law
• Experience advising in politically sensitive environments
• Familiarity with local authority governance and decision-making structures
• Confident drafting and negotiation of complex legal documents
• Comfortable with remote working and digital case management systems
• Experience mentoring or supervising junior lawyers (for senior applicants)
