Job Description - Complaint Resolution Unit Investigator

Complaints Investigator

  • Location: Fareham / Waterlooville / Winchester
  • Job Type: Temporary (2-3 months), Full-time
  • Salary: £18.41 per hour PAYE
  • Hybrid Working Arrangements Available

We are seeking an experienced Complaints Investigator to support a local police force in the timely and effective management of complaints and alleged misconduct against police officers, staff, contractors, and volunteers. This role is crucial for maintaining the integrity and accountability of the force.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Assist Investigating Officers with casework, supporting investigations in line with relevant policies and legal requirements.
  • Tasks may include gathering and collating evidence, taking statements from victims and witnesses, following directed lines of enquiry, and researching potentially evidential material.
  • Liaise with the Appropriate Authority to scope and fact-find investigative steps during local complaint handling and prepare written reports of findings.
  • Prepare reports, letters, and memoranda for key personnel or external agencies, including senior police officers, the Crown Prosecution Service, and the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
  • Prepare notices and forms for complaints and misconduct allegations for service on staff when required.
  • Explain to the public the different ways in which complaints can be investigated and progressed, ensuring their wishes are established and matters are appropriately advanced.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Significant work experience in conducting investigations and presenting findings.
  • Experience handling investigations or complaint matters.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of criminal law and the Criminal Justice System.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of the Force Organisation and structure.
