Location: Haringey, North London

Start Date: As soon as possible

Salary: £95-£105 per day

Contract Type: Full-Time, Term Time Only (Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 4:00 pm)

Duration: Long-term temporary, with the potential to become permanent

We are currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist school in Haringey, North London. This role is perfect for individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with complex special educational needs (SEN), including autism, profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), and communication difficulties.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will be working with children aged 4-16, supporting them in their daily learning and development. The role will involve assisting teachers and therapists to provide tailored support, ensuring that students are able to access the curriculum and participate in activities that develop their skills, independence, and well-being.

The Role:
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for children with a range of SEN, including autism and PMLD.
  • Assist with personal care routines, such as feeding, dressing, and hygiene, as required by individual students.
  • Support students in developing their communication skills, using methods such as PECS, Makaton, and other communication tools.
  • Help implement sensory and therapeutic activities to promote emotional regulation, social skills, and independence.
  • Work closely with teachers and other professionals to provide tailored support in line with each student's individual needs and care plans.
  • Encourage and support students' engagement in creative activities, play, and social interactions.
  • Observe student progress and contribute to reports, sharing information with the teaching and support team to ensure continuity of care and support.
Who We’re Looking For:
  • A passion for working with children, particularly those with SEN, autism, and communication difficulties.
  • Experience working in a school or care setting, ideally with children who have special educational needs (experience is desirable but not essential).
  • Patience, empathy, and a caring attitude, with the ability to support children in both academic and personal development.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, while also being proactive in taking the initiative.
  • Strong communication skills, especially with non-verbal and minimally verbal students.
  • A commitment to the role and the ability to build trust and strong relationships with students, staff, and parents.
Why This Role?
  • Gain invaluable experience in a specialist educational setting supporting children with a variety of complex needs.
  • Work as part of a supportive, passionate team who are dedicated to providing the best possible care and education.
  • Develop practical skills and techniques to support children with SEN, autism, and PMLD.
  • Opportunity for career progression and the potential to go permanent, based on your performance and school fit.
  • A rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people and contribute to their social, emotional, and academic development.

If you are compassionate, patient, and dedicated to supporting children with special educational needs, we would love to hear from you.

How to Apply:

Please submit your CV and a cover letter detailing your interest and suitability for the role. We look forward to hearing from you!

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All successful applicants will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check.
