Computer Science and Maths Tutor

Contract type: Variable Hours – Fixed Term (31/08/2026)

Location: Guildford, Surrey International Study Centre

Salary: up to £ 33.57 per hour

The University of Surrey International Study Centre, operated by Study Group, is seeking a dedicated tutor to teach across a range of Computer Science and Mathematics modules.
In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, and delivery of high-quality teaching and learning materials at both Foundation (RQF Level 3) and Pre-Master’s (FHEQ Level 6) levels. You will collaborate with colleagues across the Centre to ensure programmes align with our teaching, learning, and assessment strategy, and support an outstanding student experience.
Additionally, you will provide academic support to students and play an active role in developing and implementing innovative teaching practices.

ABOUT THE ROLE

• Contribute to the design, delivery and development of modules offered by the Surrey International Study Centre.
• Prepare and deliver teaching lessons, Including, seminars and tutorial sessions.
• Write and prepare unit examinations and other forms of formative and summative assessment.
• Mark students’ formative and summative assessment submissions and provide timely feedback to students on their performance, including tutorials and writing regular student reports.
• Develop and update course material for modules and teaching sessions, including module material for the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
• Work with the Centre’s administration team in the delivery of induction, orientation and registration programmes.
• Notify and liaise with colleagues, where necessary, to ensure all students receive appropriate on-going welfare and progression support.
• Track students’ academic journey and identify and implement appropriate intervention strategies to support on-going learning.
• Act as a Personal Tutor for one or more groups of students.
• Implement quality assurance procedures at module and teaching session level and contribute to the annual monitoring and review of courses.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of students’ attendance, engagement, and performance.
• Attend and contribute to standardisation, moderation, and other quality assurance meetings.
• Participate in regular meetings with teaching and support staff contributing to the effective overall management of the programme and student life cycle.
• Participate in the Centre and University governance structure, including attending all compulsory meetings.
• Maintain and submit accurate and timely records of teaching and other activities.
• Participate in regular training and development activities and maintain a log of these activities.

ABOUT YOU

• A Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science.
• Relevant Teaching Qualification or significant experience working with students.
• Experience and capability of writing comprehensive modules at level 3 and 6.
• Experience teaching computer science and engineering modules in the UK Higher or Further education sector, including lab-based teaching, or relevant industry experience that translates well to the classroom.
• Experience with Object-Oriented programming (MATLAB, Python)
• Experience in Web designing (JavaScript) is preferable
• Candidates with further qualifications in the subject area are welcome and a master’s qualification is essential for teaching on any of the Pre-Masters Programmes and a PhD is preferable.
• Experience of teaching in the UK Higher or Further education sector and preferably a teaching qualification and experience of working with international students.
