Job Description - Contract LLM engineer

?? Contract LLM Engineer – £450/day – Hybrid (London)?? Location: Hybrid – 2 days/week in Central London
?? Day Rate: £450/day (Outside IR35)
?? Duration: 3–6 months
?? Start Date: August (flexible)
?? About the RoleWe’re looking for a contract LLM Engineer to support the development of GenAI-powered tools for document understanding, summarisation, and intelligent search. You’ll be working with a small, agile team focused on deploying open-source models into production environments.
?? Key Responsibilities

Fine-tune and evaluate LLMs for domain-specific tasks
Build and optimise RAG pipelines using vector databases
Develop prompt engineering strategies and orchestration flows
Integrate models into backend services via APIs
Implement evaluation frameworks for response quality and reliability

?? Essential Skills

Strong Python skills and experience with Hugging Face Transformers
Familiarity with LLM fine-tuning and inference optimisation
Experience with vector search and embeddings (e.g. FAISS, Pinecone)
Understanding of prompt engineering and few-shot learning
Ability to work independently in a hybrid, agile environment

? Nice to Have

Experience with LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar orchestration tools
Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS/GCP) and containerisation (Docker)
Familiarity with NLP evaluation metrics and safety frameworks
