Barnsley Council are seeking a dedicated Council Tax Officer. This role involves assessment and maintenance of council tax and award and discounts exemptions and reliefs to ensure correct billing. This position is crucial for maintaining high standards of customer service and ensuring the efficient handling of financial assessments and records.

• Carry out assessments administration of council tax support, including areas of subsidy loss and discretion.
• Assist in the administration and maintenance of Non-Domestic Rates and Council Tax accounts, ensuring the correct application of discounts, exemptions, and reliefs.
• Contribute to the recovery and enforcement of council debts, including council tax, non-domestic rates, and overpaid housing benefits.
• Handle telephone duties aligned with the council’s customer service principles, providing guidance across different service areas.
• Respond to, investigate, and resolve complex queries and complaints, maintaining a focus on customer satisfaction and keeping stakeholders informed of progress.

• Proven experience in financial services, benefits administration, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of council tax, non-domestic rates, and benefits systems.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills, capable of handling difficult situations.
