Salary: £15-£17 per hour (depending on experience, paid via PAYE)

Tradewind Recruitment / SANZA Teaching Agency is currently working in partnership with a number of high-performing secondary schools in the London Borough of Hounslow to appoint Design & Technology Technicians to support their innovative DT departments.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a practical mindset and a passion for supporting hands-on learning to play a key role in shaping the creative and technical skills of students across Key Stages 3 to 5.

About the Role

The Design & Technology Technicians will provide essential support to teaching staff and students, helping to ensure that practical lessons run smoothly, safely, and efficiently. Working under the guidance of the Head of DT, the technician will be responsible for maintaining equipment, preparing resources, and ensuring a safe working environment in workshops and classrooms.

Key responsibilities include:

• Preparing, setting up, and maintaining tools, machinery, and materials for lessons in areas such as Resistant Materials, Graphics, Textiles, and Engineering.
• Supporting students during practical lessons by demonstrating safe use of equipment and offering technical guidance when needed.
• Ensuring all DT tools and machines are maintained and serviced according to health and safety standards.
• Monitoring and managing stock levels and ordering materials as required.
• Keeping classrooms and workshops tidy, organised, and compliant with health and safety policies (COSHH, risk assessments, etc.).
• Assisting with displays, design projects, and coursework preparation when needed.

The Ideal Candidate appoint as Design & Technology Technicians will Have:

• Previous experience working in a school or workshop environment (essential).
• Good working knowledge of DT machinery, tools, and safety procedures.
• A relevant qualification or background in Design & Technology, Engineering, or a related field (desirable).
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Confidence in supporting students and collaborating with teachers.
• A proactive, flexible attitude and a genuine enthusiasm for design and innovation in education.
