Job Description - Designer

About Caliber

Caliber is a media company built to define a new era for journalism.

All the brands in the Caliber family are shaped to reimagine how stories are created, shared and valued. We believe that modern audiences need to be met on their terms, in their tone and on their time and we do that by supporting storytellers with the tools, training and rigour to shape the world with integrity.

With newsrooms in New York and London, we are supported by a global network of creators who are trained in the rigor and craft of journalism, vetted by senior editorial talent and supported by a leading production team - all working together to cut through with purpose, context and credibility. From breaking news to emerging trends, we deliver stories that matter, shaped by robust measurement and a deep understanding of digital platforms.

At the heart of our business is The Caliber Collective - our digital agency working with clients across both US + UK, leading campaigns and partnerships of all kinds.

You’ll be hands-on everyday designing assets to support across our London and New York teams. Deliverables will range from pitch decks in google slides to social media assets across all brands and their channels. We’re constantly integrating and updating our workflows with appropriate Ai usage so willingness to innovate and utilise Ai is key.

You’ll be required to attend meetings across different departments and input on ideation for creative concepts as well as execute on them. Motion Graphic skills are a bonus but not required.

Organisation, detailed media management and use of our project management software on a daily basis are critical parts of the job.

Key Responsibilities

Process & Organisation

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously following guidance from our Design Director

  • Meet deadlines and communicate proactively about capacity or blockers

  • Keep project files organized and properly named

  • Document design decisions and maintain version control

Growth & Learning

  • Stay current with design trends, tools, and best practices

  • Actively seek feedback and apply it to improve

  • Contribute ideas in brainstorms and creative discussions

Quality & Standards

  • Ensure all work is production-ready (proper file formats, specifications, etc.)

  • Proof work carefully before submission

  • Follow established workflows and design processes

  • Maintain high attention to detail

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience with an internship, freelance, or a full-time Junior Designer role

  • A portfolio demonstrating strong visual design fundamentals and creative problem-solving

  • Proficiency in industry-standard design tools (Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.)

  • Solid grasp of typography, colour theory, layout, and composition

Why Join Caliber? Together, we’ll shape the future of news and storytelling, connecting with audiences in fresh, meaningful ways. If you share our passion for innovation, authenticity, and impact, let’s make it happen.
