DevOps Engineer - Ab Initio GCP-GKE Platform

Our retail client is looking for a DevOps Engineer to join them on a 8-month contract basis. You will be a foundational member of their team, taking ownership of engineering and operating their business-critical Ab Initio data integration platform running natively on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) within Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE).

This is a hands-on role where you will blend deep Ab Initio platform expertise with modern DevOps practices to build, manage, automate, and optimize this essential service. You will ensure its reliability, scalability, and efficient operation, directly enabling our data integration capabilities.

Accountabilities:

• Architect, deploy, configure, and manage the core Ab Initio platform infrastructure (Co>Operating System, EME, Control Center, etc.) on GCP GKE.
• Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI) for both the Ab Initio platform components and integration workflows.
• Automate Ab Initio service provisioning, configuration management, scaling, and operational tasks using scripting (Python, ksh) and IaC principles.
• Develop and maintain bespoke supporting services (e.g., simple HTTP APIs for integration/automation). Implement and manage robust monitoring, logging, and alerting for the Ab Initio pMonitoring, Cloud Logging).
• Integrate the Ab Initio platform with GCP services like GKE, CloudSQL, IAM, and networking components.
• Troubleshoot and resolve platform-level issues related to performance, stability, and configuration within the GCP/GKE environment.
• Ensure the security, reliability, and scalability of the Ab Initio platform infrastructure in the cloud.
• Work with Ab Initio developers and infrastructure teams to understand needs and constraints.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Proven hands-on experience deploying, managing, operating, and monitoring production-grade Ab Initio platform infrastructure within a containerised environment.
• Strong DevOps background with expertise in GCP and GKE.
• Proficiency in building and managing CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI preferred).
• Strong scripting skills (python, ksh).
• Solid understanding and practical experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience managing and integrating GCP services (GKE, CloudSQL, Logging, Monitoring, Security & IAM).
• Experience developing simple web services/APIs.

Desired Skills:

• Experience with Golang.
• Experience migrating Ab Initio environments to the cloud.
• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (e.g., Terraform).
• Advanced GKE operational experience.
