Job Description - Director of Student Life

The H. Lavity Stoutt Community College is seeking an exceptional British Virgin Islander of Belonger to fill the role of Director of Student Life.



The Director is responsible for the comprehensive oversight of campus and student life activities. This role encompasses the development and management of programmes such as student government, student organizations, community engagement initiatives, leadership development opportunities, and athletic activities. The Director is charged with cultivating a vibrant, inclusive, and dynamic campus environment that supports and enhances the academic mission of the institution.



In fulfilling these responsibilities, the Director of Student Life works closely with the Director of Student Affairs to proactively identify and support students who may benefit from additional services, ensuring a holistic approach to student success. The position provides strategic leadership and direct support through the Student Success Centre for important institutional milestones, such as Graduation, and enhances the overall extracurricular experience for students.


 


Duties & Responsibilities:   



  1. Provide leadership, general supervision, and strategic direction for the Student Life department.

  2. Directly supervise Student Life staff in the coordination all extracurricular initiatives, including but not limited to student activities, student athletics, clubs and student leadership development programmes.

  3. Plan, organize, direct, and administer activities and services that enhance student life, ensuring alignment with the college's mission and adherence to budgetary constraints.

  4. Oversee the chartering, development, and training of all student clubs and organizations, including academic, cultural, recreational and special interest groups.

  5. Serve as the primary liaison and advisor to the college's official honour societies ensuring compliance with national standards, supporting induction ceremonies, and guiding chapter projects and leadership development.

  6. Maintain club accounts, approve club charters and initiate contracts.

  7. Oversee the scheduling and use of college athletic facilities, ensuring safety and proper maintenance.

  8. Liaise with external sports bodies and community groups to organize friendly sporting competitions and enhance the college's athletic profile.

  9. Prepare, manage and monitor the annual Student Life budget, exercising fiscal responsibility and ensuring proper allocation of funds.

  10. Prepare regular reports on student engagements, program participation, and departmental activities for college leadership.

  11. Any other duties or tasks that may be assigned by the Vice President of Policy & Administration.


 


Competencies & Requirements:    



  1. Demonstrated ability to coordinate and implement a long-term vision for student life that aligns with the college's strategic goals.

  2. Skills in creating, executing, and evaluating programmes to measure their impact on student learning, engagement and success.

  3. Proven capacity to motivate, supervise, and develop staff and student leaders.

  4. Experience in developing, managing, and monitoring a complex departmental budget.

  5. Exceptional ability to build and sustain effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community partners.

  6. Strong skills in mediation and de-escalation to resolve disputes within student organizations and at campus events.

  7. Demonstrate capacity for developing and sustaining relationships with administrators, deans, faculty, staff and students is essential.

  8. Good interpersonal and communication skills to work with staff and students on various levels.


 


Qualifications & Experience:



  1. Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, Educational Leadership, Organisational Development, or related field (PhD preferred).

  2. 8+ years of progressive leadership experience in student affairs.

  3. Demonstrated track record of designing and executing large-scale events and utilizing data to assess their success.

Compensation


Salary - $68,182.16
