Job Description - Domestic Abuse Refuge Support Worker

Domestic Abuse Refuge Support Officer

Location: Refuge and Office Sites in Luton

Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

Salary: £14.50 - £19.50 Per hour

Contract: 3 month contract with the potential to extend

We are seeking a compassionate and proactive Refuge Support Officer to join our front line team, providing high-quality, trauma-informed support to women and children living in refuge accommodation. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of families rebuilding after experiencing gender-based violence.

About the Role

As a Refuge Support Officer, you will:

  • Provide practical and emotional support to women in refuge through one-to-one sessions, safety planning, and needs assessments.
  • Help service users access housing, health, education, and welfare services.
  • Empower women to regain control and plan for independent living.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential case records and risk assessments.
  • Facilitate house meetings and contribute to a positive refuge environment.
  • Work with external partners and promote a multi-agency approach to support.
  • Participate in an out-of-hours emergency rota.
We're looking for someone who:
  • Has experience supporting survivors of domestic abuse or working in a safeguarding environment.
  • Understands the impact of trauma and the importance of person-centred care.
  • Has excellent communication and case management skills.
  • Is proactive, empathetic, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Is committed to principles of equality, inclusion, and empowerment.
Essential Information:

  • The successful candidate will require an enhanced DBS check due to the nature of the role.
