Start Your Teaching Career Where It Matters Most

Are you an Early Career Teacher (ECT) looking to build a rewarding and meaningful career from day one?
Do you want to make a real difference for young people who thrive with the right support and encouragement?

Smart Education is proud to be working with a range of Alternative Provisions (APs) and Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools across Teesside offering incredible opportunities for ECTs to grow their practice in supportive, specialist settings.

Whether you’re primary or secondary trained, this is your chance to step into classrooms where your passion, patience, and creativity will have a lasting impact.

About the Settings:
  • Alternative Provisions support students who may have struggled in mainstream education due to behavioural needs, SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) challenges, trauma, or disengagement.

  • SEN schools cater for pupils with a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and complex needs.

  • Class sizes are small, with high levels of staff support, making them ideal environments for ECTs to learn, develop, and build strong relationships with learners.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver creative, engaging lessons tailored to the individual needs of students

  • Work closely with experienced teaching assistants, SENCOs, and pastoral teams

  • Build strong, consistent relationships to support both academic and emotional progress

  • Foster inclusive, supportive, and structured classroom environments

  • Promote confidence, independence, and emotional regulation through your teaching

What We’re Looking For:
  • Early Career Teachers (Primary or Secondary trained)

  • A passion for inclusion and a desire to support students with additional needs

  • A flexible, positive, and resilient attitude

  • Excellent communication and behaviour management skills

  • Enhanced DBS (Child or Child & Adult Workforce), or willingness to obtain one

What’s in It for You:
  • Guidance from your dedicated Smart Education consultant

  • Access to CPD and specialist SEN training

  • Opportunities to complete your ECT induction in SEN or AP settings (where available)

  • A chance to gain invaluable experience that will strengthen your long-term career

About Smart Education:

Smart Education is a trusted education recruitment partner with over a decade of experience. We are proud to support teachers who want to make a real difference, and we are committed to helping ECTs find the right settings where they can truly thrive.
