Job Description - Employee Relations Advisor

Employee Relations Advisor - HR

  • Job Type: Full-time
  • NHS Band: 5
  • Hourly Pay rate15.33 - £15.88 per hour
  • Duration - Temporary Position - duration 4 Months

We are seeking an ER Advisor to provide first-line Human Resources advice and support to Trust employees and managers, ensuring adherence to the Trust’s policies and procedures and good employment practices. This role is integral to the HR team, working in partnership with Senior ER Advisors and the HR Business Partnering team to deliver an effective HR service.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
  • Provide first-line advice and guidance on managing both short-term and long-term sickness absence, supporting managers through the process from start to finish, including termination hearings if necessary.
  • Manage complex sickness-related absence cases, including arranging and attending review meetings and liaising with Occupational Health.
  • Handle cases related to fixed-term contracts, professional registrations, visa renewals, flexible working requests, and managing probation periods across the Trust.
  • Lead on flexible working applications and appeals, advising managers on the impacts and supporting them in decision-making processes.
  • Support the management of cases where professional registration or visas have expired, participating in suspension meetings and disciplinary hearings.
  • Produce and collate documentation for formal hearings and ensure accurate updating of the ESR case management systems.
  • Provide general HR advice to all Trust staff, interpreting Trust policies to ensure compliance and offering guidance on a wide range of employee relations matters.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in an HR or ER role, ideally within a healthcare or similar setting.
  • Strong understanding of HR policies and procedures, particularly those related to sickness and absence management.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of handling sensitive information and complex situations with diplomacy and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work autonomously, managing time and diary commitments effectively.
  • Experience in handling a variety of ER cases, including complex and sensitive cases.
