Job Description - Employee Relations Investigator

London Fire Brigade - Employee Relations Investigator

The London Fire Brigade are seeking an Employee Relations Investigator to provide high-quality, professional advice and support on discipline, grievance, and complex investigations on an interim three-month basis. This role is ideal for someone who is CIPD qualified or equivalent, with significant experience in managing disciplinary and grievance cases.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide advice and support on discipline, grievance, and complex investigations.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders such as General Counsel, Occupational Health, and trade unions to progress cases.
  • Assist managers in preparing for formal hearings and attend Employment Tribunals as required.
  • Deliver briefings on discipline and grievance issues.
  • Prepare reports, correspondence, and documentation related to investigations.
  • Support the development of best practices in discipline, grievance, and investigation matters.
  • Audit the application of relevant policies and procedures and provide feedback.
  • Represent the organisation at hearings, case conferences, and working groups.
  • Act as an advisor on grievance and disciplinary panels.
  • Undertake investigations as required by the Head of Professional Standards.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • CIPD qualified or equivalent experience
  • Significant experience with disciplinary and grievance case management.
  • Experience advising staff at all levels, including trade union representatives.
  • Strong oral communication and negotiation skills.
  • Experience in a similar ER Investigative role.
  • Ability to present findings clearly and concisely.
  • Sound knowledge of employment legislation and HR best practices related to discipline and grievance.
